FIFTH BIENNIAL EMERGY RESEARCH CONFERENCE

Bring an electronic copy of your entire paper (including tables and figures) to the conference.  We really appreciate your efforts in facilitating the revisions and formatting process. It will be time-saving for both the authors the editors to start formatting your papers right away according to the following guidelines.

1. All papers must be submitted in Microsoft Word format. Save the paper with the first author's last name followed by a descriptor in the title. (example, Smith_sustainability).

2. Page setup: download and use the Front Page Template, and copy and paste your manuscript in the template. Alternatively, set the margins of your manuscript for an 8.5x11inches sheet of paper (European authors, beware to select the correct sheet size) to be 1.375 inches on all sides. To do so, go to File, Page setup, and type in 1.375 in the 4 cells next to Top, Bottom, Left, and Right. Then click to paper, and select paper size to be 8.5 inches width and 11 inches height. If your system is in centimetres, the margins are 3.49cm on all sides, and the paper size is 21.6cm width and 27.94cm height.

3. Font and paragraph setup: Use only Times New Roman font, for all the text, and tables and figure captions. All text should be doubled spaced (or 1.5 spaces).

4. Use Standard scientific paper format

a. Title (12 point Bold font)

b. Authors with affiliation

c. Abstract (< 250 words, 10 point font)

d. MAIN HEADINGS (all caps, centered)

e. Secondary Headings (caps and lower case, centered)

f. Third Order Headings (caps lower case/ left justified)

g. References (10 point font as follows)

5. Tables and Figures: For the review process, place tables and figures at the end of the manuscript with the captions on the same page (it is not necessary to have a separate caption page). Make sure all your tables and figures fit within the margins of the paper (1.375 inches on all sides, or 3.49 cm). If they do not fit within the margins, we will not be able to print them, so you may want to rearrange your tables/figures before submitting the paper. Also submit your tables and figures as separate files in the original application you used to make them. No color please!

6. Calculations, notes, and appendices: follow the format of Chapter 17, Transformity and Simulation of Microbial Ecosystems, by H.T. Odum, in Emergy Synthesis 2: Proceedings of the Second Biennial Emergy Conference. More specifically:

a. Place calculations, notes and appendices at the end of the paper, after references.

b. Titles should be 12 pt font, UPPERCASE, bold, left justified
